Issue 36
9th November 2011
We have been undertaking a fairly lengthy consultation on some modest changes to the Instruments and Articles of Government of sixth form colleges. However, you will be aware of proposals in the Education Bill regarding Instruments and Articles of Government, which, if they are accepted, will require further changes to be made.
In light of this, and given that those SFCs that have already responded to the consultation have no significant issues with the proposed changes, the YPLA has consulted with representative bodies the Sixth Form Colleges’ Forum, the Catholic Education Service, and the Association of Colleges, and has agreed to put the consultation on hold.
There are no legal implications from this delay, and the Department for Education has also confirmed it is content to delay. We are grateful to those SFCs who have already responded, and all responses will be carried forward for consideration in future developments. Next steps will be confirmed once further information is available regarding Royal Assent and commencement of the Education Bill.
