Issue 43
7 March 2012
We are writing to everyone we fund to outline the arrangements for contacting the Education Funding Agency.
The YPLA and PfS will cease current activities at the end of March 2012. Their responsibilities and staff, along with a number of DfE staff, will move to the new Education Funding Agency (EFA) from 1 April 2012.
The EFA will be one of four new executive agencies within the DfE set up to work alongside policy teams to deliver the Government’s education priorities. It will fund the education system for 0 -19 year olds (or up to 25 for learners with a disability), including Academies, Free Schools, maintained schools, general further education and sixth form colleges and independent private providers.
As such, it will be responsible for the allocation and payment of approximately £50 billion revenue and capital funding each year and for the delivery of capital programmes.
In the vast majority of cases the existing relationships you have with DfE, PfS and YPLA staff will continue within the EFA. However, we will no longer be separate organisations, rather we will be a single body which will allow us to provide, over time, a more joined-up service for our customers and partners.
From 1 April, the current email contacts you have for YPLA and PfS staff will change. The email addresses for EFA staff will be in the same format as DfE emails, which is firstname.surname@education.gsi.gov.uk. New email addresses will be in operation from 1 April. We will be confirming our non-staff and team email addresses in our next e-bulletin.
Your contacts will be telling you if their telephone numbers are changing. The DfE switchboard (0370 000 2288) will be able to direct you to teams and individuals in the EFA if you are unable to get through to an existing contact on their direct dial. The Learner Support Service (LSS) Provider helpline number will remain the same (0845 600 7979) and you can continue to contact the LSS for information on financial support schemes for learners.
The EFA will have staff located in 11 offices in 10 towns and cities across the country. The locations are:
We will continue to issue a regular e-bulletin and will confirm expected publication dates in the final issue of the YPLA e-bulletin on 21 March.
