Summer schools programme for disadvantaged pupils

In the autumn the Deputy Prime Minister announced £50million for the Summer Schools Programme for disadvantaged pupils. The programme will take place during the 2012 summer holidays. It is open to all secondary schools and aims to help disadvantaged pupils - those registered for Free School Meals and those who have been looked after in public care continuously for six months - make a successful transition from primary to secondary school.

£500 will be allocated per disadvantaged pupil for a two-week summer school. We have calculated each school’s indicative funding amount based on current year 7 FSM and looked after children figures. When you opt-in, you will be able to tell us the actual number of disadvantaged pupils you expect to attend.

To opt-in to the programme you will need to complete a short online form. The deadline for opting-in is 5pm on Monday 30 April 2012.
